Shaykh Muhammad bin Hādī Al-Madkhalī Explains that Shaykh Rabī’ bin Hādī Al-Madkhalī is from the Astonishing Affairs of our Times

[Q]: And this one asks: who possesses the knowledge of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel in our present times?

[A]: As for whatever is related to narrations, then that has been documented in books and there is nothing left from that except for it to be studied.  As for whatever is related to innovation and criticizing its people and clarifying their condition, then this returns back to the Scholars – to the Scholars of the Sunnah – those who know the innovations, their rulings and the rulings upon their people.

And the more a person delves into this topic, the more he mixes with the people and reads their books and obtains knowledge of their positions, then he will be more knowledgeable about this topic.  For example, the early Imaams of hadeeth used to say, ‘Indeed, the knowledge of al-Jarh wat-Ta’deel is a difficult ascent.’  So the huffaadh (memorizers) are many and those who procure enough knowledge for ta’deel (appraisal) and tajreeh (disparagement, criticism) are few from amongst them.  And they have stipulated several conditions for the mujarrih (critic).  So from them:

• He must be a memorizer of the narrations.
• He must have memorized the avenues of disagreement.
• He must be knowledgeable about the narrators, knowledgeable about their teachers, level after level and about their students and about the sources of their reports and other than that.

So once he has come to know these things, then having a vast memory and being familiar with the conditions of the people will aid him.  And he must adorn himself with taqwaa (righteousness) and wara’ (piety) and fear of Allaah.  So he must not have a predilection for desire and he must not be provoked by anger.  This is what they have mentioned with regards to the attributes of the mujarrih (critic).

So therefore, the Scholar who knows the people and he has mixed with the people, then he is the one who rules upon them, since he has knowledge of the people, in addition to his knowledge about the ahkaam (rules, regulations) of the Sharee’ah.  So he is given precedence in this.

And from the astonishing affairs I have seen in these times is our Shaykh, Shaykh Rabee’ (hafidhahullaah).  There has never been an individual mentioned to us that we were ignorant about and we asked him about this individual, except that he would say, ‘I have known him for twenty years, or thirty years, or forty years, or for fifteen years,’ and the likes of that.  He will bring you information about that individual in detail and he will explain that this individual has such and such and such a position, and we visited him at his place and in his land, or such and such has been mentioned to us, or we met in such a season and the likes of that.

So knowledge of the people in this manner is a distinct field.  Sometimes, you do not even fully know your neighbour who lives beside you for months.  You may not even know his name!  So this is a gift from Allaah the Blessed and Exalted.

Indeed, this has been testified for him.  Meaning, the one whose testimony is given consideration in this topic: Shaykh Naasir - rahimahullaahu ta’aalaa - said he is the flag bearer of the Sunnah in these times.  So he was from the most knowledgeable of the people concerning the hadeeth of the Messenger ﷺ. Rather, I do not know of anyone under the pillars of the heavens more knowledge about hadeeth in these times - rahmatullaahi ’alayhi.  And he testified for this man (i.e. Shaykh Rabee’), the Shaykh (i.e. Shaykh al-Albaanee) testified for his student. [1] So may Allaah have mercy upon Shaykh Naasir and may Allaah preserve our Shaykh, Shaykh Rabee’.

And we ask Allaah the Sublime and Exalted to grant all of us success. [2]

An Explanation of the Four Rules Regarding Shirk (Pdf)

Part 11: Shaykh Ahmad bin Yahyā An-Najmī on Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh

Question: A questioner from Jordan says, “I used to go with Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh and slander the Scholars of the Sunnah, then Allāh guided me to the Manhaj (methodology) of the Truth, so I then became in a struggle with this Jamā’ah which sometimes reached the police. Please advise me and how should I atone for my slander of the Scholars of the Sunnah?”

Answer: Atone for what occurred from you by defending the Scholars of the Sunnah and by saying about the people of Tablīgh what is worthy of being said about them. And they are a Sufī, Deobandī Jamā’ah. And their founder used to sit at the graves seeking blessings from the people in the graves, [he is] Muhammad Illiyās. The important thing is that the issue regarding it [Jamā'at ut-Tablīgh] is clear. And this Jamā’ah, is a Jamā’ah far removed from good and from the truth, even if they do desire worship. Nevertheless, how many from the people of groups and parties are from those who desired worship while being upon other than the truth? And those groups and parties spread from a Sufī origin and who have amongst them acts of major Shirk, continuing (upon their way) and consider it to be the truth. And we seek Refuge with Allāh. Na’am.

Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh Exposed – Part 10: Shaykh Sālih bin Fawzān bin ‘Abdullāh al-Fawzān affirms his stance against Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh -

Question: O honourable Shaykh, may Allāh give you success. One of the leaders of Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh mentioned that you indeed praise Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh in one of your previous lectures in the city of Qurayyah. So, is this true?

Answer: He is a liar. He is a jovial liar. Na’am. I do not praise them and I do not like them. Na’am.

Questioner: One of the callers of Jamā’at ut-Tablīgh says, “We have caused the people to be lost in the name of Tawhīd and have encouraged them upon sinning. And this is due to the statement that the Muwahhid (person of Tawhīd) will enter Paradise regardless of his sins other than Shirk. Tawhīd, Tawhīd and Tawhīd. So how will we respond to Allāh عز وجل regarding the existence of these sinners?” So the question is, what is your Excellency’s opinion regarding this statement.

Shaykh Sālih bin Fawzān bin ‘Abdullāh al-Fawzān: This is the statement of an ignoramus or a misguided one. Either he is an ignoramus and does not know the speech regarding the issues of knowledge, or he knows yet is misguided and desires misguidance of the people. So there is no doubt that Shirk is the greatest of the sins and that its committer will not enter Paradise, period. And as for the committer of sins, even if they be major and not Shirk, then forgiveness and entrance to Paradise will return to him. And this is something which is not from us. Allāh جل وعلا says, “Verily, Allāh forgives not that partners should be set up with Him in worship, but He forgives that (anything else) to whom He pleases” (An-Nisā’ 4: 48). And in the Hadīth [the Messenger ﷺ said, that Allāh will say,] “Remove from the Fire whosoever has in his heart īmān equivalent to the weight of mustard seed” [Narrated by Abī Sa'īd and reported by Bukhārī & others]. So Tawhīd guarantees for its possessor Paradise, either in the beginning or in the end, even if he is punished (in Hell). As for the Mushrik then there is no security for him ever. “It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allāh and worship none but Him alone) and confuse not their belief with Zulm (wrong i.e. by worshipping others besides Allāh)… ” (Al-An’ām: 6: 82) meaning by Shirk. “…for them (only) there is security and they are the guided” (Al-An’ām: 6: 82). So the people of Tawhīd have security, those who do not cover their īmān with Zulm meaning Shirk have security, either completely or in the end. As for the Mushrik then he has no security, period. And he is eternally in the Fire. So this one who says that Tawhīd caused the people to be lost, then this – and Allāh’s Refuge is sought – is atrocious speech. This is atrocious speech, false speech. Tawhīd is what rectified the people and it is what will save the people on the Day of Resurrection from the Fire. So, it (Tawhīd) is the basis, and it is the foundation. And there is no comparison between the (ordinary) sin and Shirk. Shirk is the greatest of sins, and there is no salvation alongside of it. As for the sins then they are under the will (of Allāh). If Allāh Wills He can punish their committer and if He Wills He can forgive him. And if he is punished then his final outcome will (eventually) be Paradise. Na’am.

Busying Yourself with Refutations from the Scholars Without Knowing the Basics

A questioner from the UAE asks:

What is your advice, O Shaykh, for someone who busies their self as a beginner with what exists between the scholars of refutations and statements while not even knowing the fiqh of purification or other that that?

The Answer by Ash-Shaykh Zayd ibn Muhammad Al-Madkhalī, hafidhahullāhu Ta’Alā:

My advice is that they gain understanding by learning the religion as regards their beliefs and the outer rituals of worship and as regards their behaviour and methodology (Manhaj) that they traverse upon.  Included in that are the books of refutation by which the Salaf as-Sālih and their followers refuted the people of desires and innovations, and how abundant are they in every time and place!  It isn’t permissible for anyone to use little understanding of purification and the prayer as a means to deprive the people from hearing the books of refutations and them being written, benefited from and read.  But just as if is mandatory to gain understanding regarding ‘Aqīdah and the outer rituals of worship, it is mandatory for us to gain understanding by learning the methodology of action and the Sunnah in order to act by it and be acquainted with innovation which is its opposite in order to avoid it.  So it isn’t permissible for anyone to say to the people abandon these refutations and leave off this or the other and stick to something else.  He says this without knowledge because if he doesn’t know the evil, he’ll fall into it while the refutations clarify the way of good from the way of evil.  So he listens to a tape, reads a book and listens to a scholar as regards all levels of the religion, ‘Aqīdah and Shari’ah, Sunnah and Manhaj.  The people of innovations of the past from the era of the sahābah until this day of ours weren’t made known for us except by way of the books of refutation upon them.  If the books of refutation didn’t exists throughout time and places the people wouldn’t know the people of innovations and wouldn’t be able to warn against an innovator.  And the covenant of Allah and His trust is upon the people of refutations that they are not to say anything but the truth and are not to accuse anyone that they don’t have clear evidence and knowledge against from what they wrote or distributed, said in a tape of a book that they authored.  This is the way of refutations and otherwise it is not allowed for anyone to refute by way of suspicions or accusation contrary to reality. The Ruling on Celebrating the End of the Islamic Year – Shaykh Sālih bin Fawzān al-Fawzān

السؤال: هناك من يخصص آخر السنة بنصح وموعظة أو دعاء فهل هذا الفعل صحيح؟
الجواب: لا، هذا بدعة فلا يجوز أنه يخصص آخر السنة الهجرية بمعايدة أو بتهنئة أو بذكر أو بدعاء، ما يجوز هذا، ما كان السلف يفعلون هذا، نعم.

Question: There are some people who specify the end of the Islāmic year by giving special advices, admonitions, supplications, etc. Is this permissible?

Answer: No, this is considered Bid’ah (religious innovation). It is not allowed to specify the end of the Islāmic year by giving special greetings or by holding celebrations, nor by giving reminders or making supplications. None of this is permissible and the Salaf didn’t do any of it.

Can A Muslim Participate In & Celebrate Christmas with the Kuffār? Shaykh ‘Abdul-’Azīz ibn Bāz

Question:
Our brother says: He notices that some of the Muslims participate along with the Christians in the Festival of the Birth, or Christmas as they call it; he hopes for some guidance regarding that.

Answer:
It is not permissible for the Muslim male or female to participate with the Christians, the Jews, or other than them from the disbelievers in their holidays. Rather, it is obligatory to abandon that.

This is because:
مَنْ تَشَبَّهَ بِقَوْمٍ فَهُوَ مِنْهُمْ
“He who imitates a people is from them.”

And the Messenger ﷺ warned us against imitating them and adorning ourselves with their mannerisms. So it is upon the believing male and female to beware of that, and not to aid in the celebration of these holidays with anything. This is because they are holidays which oppose the Legislation of Allāh and the enemies of Allāh establish them. So it is not permissible to participate in them nor to cooperate with its people or to assist them with anything; not with (giving them) tea, coffee, or anything at all; such as utensils, and the likes.

Also, Allāh the Glorified says:
وَتَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى الْبرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى وَلاَ تَعَاوَنُواْ عَلَى الإِثْمِ وَالْعُدْوَانِ
Help you one another in Al-Birr and At-Taqwaa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. (Al-Ma’idah 5:2)

So participating with the disbelievers in their holidays is a type of helping them upon sin and transgression. Hence, it is obligatory upon every Muslim male and female to abandon that and it is not befitting for the one who has intellect to be deceived by the people in their actions. It is obligatory to ponder over the legislation of Al-Islām and that which is has brought and to adhere to the command of Allāh and His Messenger, and not to look towards the affairs of the people. For most of the creation has no concern for the Legislation of Allāh.

As Allāh the Mighty and Majestic has said:
وَإِن تُطِعْ أَكْثَرَ مَن فِي الأَرْضِ يُضِلُّوكَ عَن سَبِيلِ اللّهِ
And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allāh’s Path. (Al-An’am 6:116)

He, Glorified be He, has said:
وَمَا أَكْثَرُ النَّاسِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتَ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ
And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. (Yusuf 12:103)

So the holidays which oppose the Legislation, then it is not permissible to accept them, even if the people are doing it.

For the believer weighs his actions & statements, & the actions and statements of the people, by the Book and the Sunnah; the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of His Messenger ﷺ.

That which coincides with them or one of them, then it is accepted, even if the people have abandoned it.

That which opposes them or one of them, then it is rejected, even if the people do it. And may Allāh grant all Tawfeeq and guidance.

“Nāsir al-’Umar is from the Leaders of the Sitting Khawarij” Shaykh ‘Ubayd bin Abdullāh al-Jābirī

Q: There is a revolutionary book under the title “At-tarbiya Al-jihadiyah” (the jihadist upbringing) and the country (Saudi Arabia), may Allāh grant it success, has banned it due to its severity. And Nāsir al-’Umar has provided a recommendation for this book, and requests returning to the book. With knowledge that this book contains direction for the Khawarij to unify their ranks, so as to confront the ruling bodies. What are your comments?

A: In short, Nāsir al-’Umar is from them (the Khawarij) if this is correct. And he is known to be from those [who are concerned with] the “fiqh of present times”. A’ed al-Qarnī praised him and said, “No one has singled out the ‘fiqh of present times’ as Shaykh Nāsir al-’Umar has.” And he likens him to Ash-Shafi’ī! Ash-Shafi’ī was the first to single out Usûl Al-Fiqh and Nasser Al-Umar is the first to single out the “fiqh of present times”.

And all praise is due to Allāh; the people of knowledge have criticized him (Nāsir al-’Umar) and exposed his flaws. And in summary, his speech is that the scholars of Sunnah don’t understand these present times that the people live in.

And being that he praises this aforementioned book, this is not something surprising coming from him, because the whims of the author of the book coincided with his whims.
