Ten Things That Nullify one’s Islām – Shaykh Al-Islām, al-Mujadid, Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul-Wahāb ibn Sulaimān At-Tamimi – May Allāh have mercy upon him. نواقض الإسلام العشرة لشيخ الإسلام محمد بن عبد الوهاب
Shaykh Muhammad Nasir ud-deen al-Albaanee discusses the the Ascendancy of Allaah the Most High and a Critique of the Belief that He is Present in all That Exists.
Shakh Muhammad Nasir ud-Deen al-Albaanee on the three categories of Tawheed.
“And I say in truth that Ibn Taymiyyah did not come with something new. Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah has been textually stipulated in the Qur’an as has Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah and Tawheed as-Sifaat. All of these things are textually stipulated in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
However, Ibn Taymiyyah clarified these meanings through Tafsir of their texts from the Book (Qur’an) & the Sunnah. So, it becomes binding upon the Muslims to clarify them with this conciseness because not every Muslim is able to understand, for example where has the text about Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah come from, (or) where has the text about Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah (or al-Ibaadah) come from, (or) where has Tawheed as-Sifaat come from. The common folk are obligated to understand the testimony of Tawheed. So, they are not able to understand it except by way of the people of knowledge.
So, if we disregard the categorisation of Ibn Taymiyyah which clarifies the text of the Book and the Sunnah from which these three categories are derived; from Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah, Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah, and Tawheed as-Sifaat then what is the way that makes possible conceiving the texts to understand this reality, the reality of ‘Laa ilaha illallaah’.”
Appendix: Definition of the three categories of Tawheed:
1. Tawheed ar-Rububiyyah – Oneness of the Lordship of Allaah: To believe there is only one Lord for all that exists and He is the Creator, Organiser, Planner, Sustainer & Giver of security, and that is Allah.
2. Tawheed al-Uluhiyyah – Oneness of the Worship of Allaah: To believe that none has the right to be worshipped in truth (e.g. praying, invoking, asking for help (from the unseen), swearing, slaughtering sacrifices, giving charity, fasting, pilgrimage etc) except Allaah alone.
3. Tawheed al-Asmaa was-Sifaat – Oneness of the Names & Qualities/Attributes of Allaah: To believe that:
We must not name or qualify Allaah except with that He or His Messenger has named or Qualified Allaah.
None can be named or qualified with the Names or Attributes of Allaah, e.g. The Most-High.
We must believe in all the Qualities of Allaah which Allaah has stated in His Book (Qur’an) or mentioned through the Messenger without changing their meanings, or ignoring them completely, or twisting the meanings, or giving resemblance to any of the created things.
“O you who believe! Fear Allah (by doing all that He has ordered and by abstaining from all that He has forbidden) as He should be feared. (Obey Him, be thankful to Him, and remember Him always), and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allah.”
“O you who believe! Keep your duty to Allah and fear Him, and speak (always) the truth. He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger he has indeed achieved a great achievement.”
[Al-Ahzab (33): 70-71]

يقول الله سبحانه وتعالى في كتابه الكريم:
“Whatever is in the heavens and earth exalts [the praises of] Allaah; and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”
[Al-Hadid (57): 1]
Therefore everything in the heavens and the earth glorifies the praises of Allaah. It [i.e. everything in the heavens and earth] is not Allaah.
Then Allaah Aza’wa’jal proceeds to say,
“His is the dominion of the heavens and earth. He gives life and causes death, and He is over all things powerful. He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate; and He Knows all things”
[Al-Hadid (57): 2-3]
صلى الله عليه وسلم In Sahih Muslim it is reported that the Prophet
used to say in his supplication:
“O Allaah! The Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne; our Lord and the Lord of everthing. The Splitter of the grain and seed, the One Who revealed the Torah, Injeel and Quran. I take refuge with You from every creature whose forelock You hold. You are the First, there was nothing before You; You are the Last, there is nothing after You; You are the Manifest, there is nothing above You; You are the Inward, there is nothing beyond You. Remove the burden of debt from me and relieve me from poverty.”
Then Allaah Aza’wa’jal says:
“It is He Who created the heavens & the earth in Six Days & then Rose over the Throne. He knows what penetrates into the earth & what emerges from it & what ascends from the heaven & what descends therein; & He is with you (by His Knowledge) wherever you are.”
[al-Hadid (57): 4]
Hence He mentions that the Heavens and the Earth, and in other places He adds “and everything between them” is created and praising Him. He also informs us that He knows everything.
As for His saying, “And He is with you”. Then the word ma‘a (with) does not necessitate that one of two things be mixed with the other according to the rules of the Arabic language.
This is like His, The Exalted’s saying,
“O you who believe! Fear Allaah and be with those who are true.”
[At-Tawbah (9): 119]
“Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; those who are with him are severe against the disbelievers…”
[Al-Fath (48): 29]
“And those who believed after [the first emigration] and emigrated and fought with you – they are of you.”
[Al-Anfal (8): 75]
The word ma‘a (with) has been used in the Qur’an in a general and specific sense.
The general usage can be seen in the previously quoted verse and in the verse of Surah Mujadilah,
“Have you not considered that Allaah knows what is in the heavens and what is on the earth? There is no private conversation of three but He is the fourth; nor five but He is the sixth; and no less than that or more than that except that He is with them (with His Knowledge) wherever they are. Then He will inform them of what they did on the Day of Resurrection. Indeed Allaah knows all things.”
[Al-Mujadilah (58): 7]
The context opens by mentioning knowledge and closes by mentioning knowledge and this is why ibn Abbas, ad-Dahhak, Sufyan ath-Thawri and Ahmad bin Hanbal said, ‘He is with them with His Knowledge.’
The specific usage can be seen in His, the Exalted’s saying:
“Truly, Allah is with those who fear Him (keep their duty unto Him), and those who are Muhsinoon (good-doers)” [An-Nahl (16): 128]
And His saying to Musa,
“He (Allaah) said, ‘Fear not, Indeed I am with you both; I Hear and I See’.”
[Ta Ha (20): 46]
And He, the Exalted says,
] said to his companion [Abu Bakr], صلى الله عليه وسلم“When he [Muhammad
‘Do not despair; indeed Allaah is with us’.”
[At-Tawbah (9): 40]
and Abu Bakr (radiyAllaahu ‘anhu). صلى الله عليه وسلم Meaning the Prophet
So in this sense He is with Musa and Aaron but not Pharaoh. He is with Muhammad and his companion but not with Abu Jahl and His other enemies. He is with those who fear Allaah and those who do good but not with the wrongdoers and oppressors.
If the meaning was that he was with them in His Essence in every place (as the deviant Sufis say), the specific sense would contradict the general sense. Rather the meaning is that He is with them, in the specific sense, by way of His Aid and Support. As for the saying of the Exalted,
“It is He (Allah) Who is the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) in the heaven and the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) on the earth. And He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower.”
[Az-Zukhruf (43): 84]
Then this means that He is the deity of whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the Earth as He, the Exalted says,
“To Him belongs the highest description in the heavens and the earth. He is the All-Mighty the All-Wise.”
[Ar-Rum (30): 27]
The Salaf of this nation and their Imams are unanimously agreed that the Lord is separate from His creation, he is described with what He described Himself with and what His Messenger described Him with, without distortion or denial and without enquiring how or likening to the creation. He is described with Attributes of perfection and not with deficient attributes just as Allaah, the Exalted says,
“Say: ‘He is Allaah, the One. Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks).“He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him’.”
[Al-Ikhlas (112): 1-4]
Ibn Abbas (radiyAllaahu ‘anhu) said,
“As-Samad means Al-Alim, whose Knowledge is perfect, Al-Azim whose wisdom is perfect and As-Sayyid whose mastery is perfect”
[Reported by as-Suyuti, ‘ad-Durr al-Manthur’ (6/415).]
Ibn Mas’ud (radiyAllaahu ‘anhu) and others said,
“He [Allaah] is the One Who about whom there is nothing pointless and meaningless. Al-Ahad meaning that there is nothing comparable to Him,”
[Refer to: ibn Kathir [4/570] et al]
Therefore the name as-Samad includes describing Him with perfect Attributes and negating any deficiency from Him. The name Al-Ahad means that there is nothing like Him.
(Taken from: “The Decisive Criterion Between: The Friends of Allaah and The Friends of Shaytan” by Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah)
[To conclude, what has been presented is clear proof that Allaah is separate and distinct from His creation and not everywhere with His Essence as those who believe in Whatatul Wajood (Unity of Existence) believe.]
سبحانك اللهم وبحمدك ، اشهد ان لا اله الا انت ، استغفرك و اتوب اليك
Glory is to You, O Allah, and praise is to You. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
Showing that the Jews are no less guilty in terms of the claim that the Christians have concerning Jesus. Rather, the Jews themselves – despite rebuking the Christians – call ’Uzayr the son of Allah!
Source: [islaam.ca] Published: Pre 2000
The Jews call ’Uzayr a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allah. That is the saying from their mouth; (In this) they are intimate; what the Unbelievers of the old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the truth. [Qur‘aan 9:30]
‘Uzayr, who was exalted by a community of Jews, is identified as Ezra by Muslim commentators. The Qur’an says:
The Jews call ‘Uzayr a son of Allaah, and the Christians call Christ the son of Allaah. That is the saying from their mouth; (In this) they are intimate; what the Unbelievers of the old used to say. Allaah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the truth. [Qur'an 9:30]
Before we take care of the origin of the issue of exalting Ezra to son of God by some Jews, let us first discuss the life of the man himself.
Ezra (5th-4th century BC, Babylon and Jerusalem) was a religious leader of the Jews who returned from exile in Babylon, and a reformer who reconstituted the Jewish community on the basis of the Torah (Law, or the regulations of the first five books of the Old Testament). This monumental work of Ezra helped to make Judaism a religion in which law was central, that enabled the Jews to survive as a community when they were dispersed all over the world. Ezra has with some justice been called the father of Judaism since his efforts did much to give Jewish religion the form that was to characterize it for centuries after the specific form the Jewish religion took after the Babylonian Exile. So important was he in the eyes of his people that later tradition regarded him as no less than a second Moses (upon him be peace). Regarding the tomb of Ezra Encyclopedia Judaica says:
“There are number of traditions concerning the site of Ezra’s tomb. According to Josephus it is in Jerusalem; others hold that he was buried in Urta or in Zunzumu on the Tigris; but the general accepted version is that his tomb is situated in Uzer, a village near Basra. This tradition is mentioned by Benjamin of Tuleda, Pethahiah of Regensburg, Judah Alharizi, and other travelers, Jewish and non-Jewish who visited Babylonia.”[1]
It is to be kept in mind that the knowledge about Ezra is derived from the Biblical books of Ezra and Nehemiah, supplemented by the Apocryphal (not included in the Jewish and Protestant canons of the Old Testament) book of I Esdras (Latin Vulgate form of the name Ezra), which preserves the Greek text of Ezra and a part of Nehemiah.
It is interesting to note that the Jews in Arabia, during the advent of Islam, were involved in mystical speculation as well as anthromorphizing and worshipping an angel that functions as the substitute creator of the universe. That angel is usually identified as Metatron[2]. Newby notes that:
...we can deduce that the inhabitants of Hijaz during Muhammad’s time knew portions, at least, of 3 Enoch in association with the Jews. The angels over which Metatron becomes chief are identified in the Enoch traditions as the sons of God, the Bene Elohim, the Watchers, the fallen ones as the causer of the flood. In 1 Enoch, and 4 Ezra, the term Son of God can be applied to the Messiah, but most often it is applied to the righteous men, of whom Jewish tradition holds there to be no more righteous than the ones God elected to translate to heaven alive. It is easy, then, to imagine that among the Jews of the Hijaz who were apparently involved in mystical speculations associated with the merkabah, Ezra, because of the traditions of his translation, because of his piety, and particularly because he was equated with Enoch as the Scribe of God, could be termed one of the Bene Elohim. And, of course, he would fit the description of religious leader (one of the ahbar of the Qur’an 9:31) whom the Jews had exalted.[3]
The Islamic exegetes have mentioned that there existed a community of Jews in Yemen who considered Ezra as son of God. Hirschberg says in Encyclopedia Judaica:
H Z Hirschberg proposed another assumption, based on the words of Ibn Hazm, namely, that the ‘righteous who live in Yemen believed that ‘Uzayr was indeed the son of Allaah. According to other Muslim sources, there were some Yemenite Jews who had converted to Islam who believed that Ezra was the messiah. For Muhammad, Ezra, the apostle (!) of messiah, can be seen in the same light as the Christian saw Jesus, the messiah, the son of Allah.[4]
George Sale makes an interesting comment concerning the Muslim as well as Judeo-Christian opinion on this issue.
This grievous charge against the Jews, the commentators endeavour to support by telling us, that it is meant of some ancient heterdox Jews, or else of some Jews of Medina; who said so for no other reason, than for that the law being utterly lost and forgotten during the Babylonish captivity, Ezra having been raised to life after he had been dead one hundred years, dictated the whole anew unto the scribes, out of his own memory; at which they greatly marveled, and declared that he could not have done it, unless he were the son of God. Al Beidawi adds, that the imputation must be true, because this verse was read to the Jews and they did not contradict it; which they were ready enough to do in other instances.
That Ezra did restore not only the Pentateuch, but also the other books of the Old Testament, by divine revelation, was the opinion of several of the Christian fathers, who are quoted by Dr.Prideaux, and of some other writers; which they seem to have first borrowed from a passage in that very ancient apocryphal book, called in our English Bible, the second book of Esdras. Dr. Prideaux tells us, that herein the Fathers attributed more to Ezra, than the Jews themselves, which he laboured much in, and went a great way in the perfecting of it. It is not improbable however, that the fiction came originally from the Jews, though they be now of another opinion, and I cannot fix it upon them by any direct proof. For, not to insist upon the testimony of the Mohammedans (which yet I cannot but think of some little weight in a point of this nature,) it is allowed by the most sagacious critics, that the second book of Ezra was written by a Christian indeed, but yet one who had been bred a Jew, and was intimately acquainted with the fables of the Rabbis; and the story itself is perfectly in the taste and was of thinking of those men.[5]
It is also interesting to note that when Mary was address as Sister of Aaron, the Christian from Najran wanted to clarify it. But when ‘Uzayr was called the son of Allaah, the Jews did not object at all!
Last but not the least, a Christian writer also proposed that Muhammad (peace be upon him) got the information of Jews exalting Ezra to son of God from the Samaritans who said the Ezra had acted presumptuously and had changed the old divine alphabetical character of the holy Books of the Law – a character still used and revered to this day by rapidly dwindling Samaritan community.[6] This author concludes in a rather unchristian way that:
But it is not at all unlikely that the source of Mohammed’s indictment of the Jews is to be found among the Samaritans or amongst Arab tribesmen of Samaritan strain. If we found in Samaritan literature the opposite belief that Ezra (or Uzair) was the son of Satan, we would be well-nigh sure of having settled the matter.[7]
And Allaah knows best!

SoJesus said, as His Lord states in the Quran, “O Israel, I am the Messenger of Allaah for you confirming the Torah (which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad [one of the names of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him]. But when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, ‘This is clear magic.’” [as-Saff, The Rank 61:6] - Quoted by Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-’Uthaymeen, renowned Islamic Scholar (who died in 1420H / 2000 CE)
Question: One of the preachers in one of the mosques in Europe claimed that it is not allowed to consider Jews and Christians disbelievers. You know – may Allah preserve you – that most of the people who attend the mosques in Europe have very little knowledge. We fear that statements like this one will become widespread. Therefore, we request from you a complete and clear answer to this question.
Answer: I say: The statement that came from that man is misguidance. In fact, it can be blasphemy. This is because Allah has declared that Jews and Christians are disbelievers (kuffaar) in His Book. Allaah has said, “And the Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of Allaah,’ and the Christians say, ‘The Messiah is the son of Allaah.’ This is a saying from their mouths. They imitate the saying of the disbelievers of old. Allaah’s curse be on them, how they are deluded away from the truth. They took their rabbis and their monks as lords besides Allaah and [they also took as Lord] the Messiah, son of Mary. But they were commanded only to worship none but One God. Praise and Glory be to Him, [far above is He] from having the partners they associate with Him.” [at-Tawbah, The Repentance 9:30-31] That shows that they are polytheists who associate partners with Allah. In other verses, Allah has made it clear that they are disbelievers:
“Surely in disbelief are they who say that Allaah is the Messiah, son of Mary.” [al-Maidah, The Table Spead with Food 5:17 and 72]
“Surely, disbelievers are those who said, ‘Allaah is the third of the three [in a Trinity].” [al-Maidah, The Table Spead with Food 5:73]
“Those among the Children of Israel who disbelieved were cursed by the tongue of David and Jesus, son of Mary.” [al-Maidah, The Table Spead with Food 5:87]
“Those who disbelieve among the People of the Book and the idolaters will abide in the Fire of Hell.” [al-Bayyinah, The Clear Evidence 98:6]
Many verses and hadeeth express the same meaning. The one who rejects the idea that the Jews and the Christians who do not believe in Muhammad [peace be upon him] and deny him are disbelievers is, in fact, denying what Allah has said. Denying what Allah has said is blasphemy. If anyone has any doubt concerning them being disbelievers, then he himself is also a disbeliever.
Glory be to Allah!
How could that man be pleased to say that it is not allowed to say that they are disbelievers when they themselves say that Allah is one of a Trinity? Their Creator Himself has declared that they are disbelievers.
How could this man not be pleased to call them disbelievers when they actually say, “Jesus is the son of God” or “the hand of Allah is tied,” and “Allah is poor and we are rich”?
How could this man not be pleased to call them disbelievers and apply the word of disbelief (kufr) to them in general when they describe their Lord in such ways that are nothing but cursing and abusing Allah?
I call upon that man to repent to Allah and to read Allah’s words, “They wish that you should compromise (in religion out of courtesy) with them, so that they (too) would compromise with you.” [al-Qalam, The Pen 68:9] He should make it clear to everyone that they are disbelievers and that they are the inhabitants of the Hell-fire (note added: if they die upon disbelief). The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “By the One in whose hand my soul is, no Jew or Christian of this community hears about me – that is from the community of people from the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) until the Day of Judgment – and then does not follow me – or he said does not believe in what I brought – except that he is from the inhabitants of the Hell-fire.” [Saheeh Muslim]
The one who made such a statement must repent to his Lord because of this great falsehood he has stated. He must make a clear announcement that they are disbelievers and that they are inhabitants of the Hell-fire. He must also announce that it is obligatory upon them to follow the unlettered Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). he is the one that the Jews and the Christians know and they know him like they know their own sons. Allah has stated, “Those who follow the Messenger, the illiterate Prophet whom they find written about with them in the Torah and the Gospel, he commands what is right and forbids what is evil. He allows them the good things and forbids for them disdainful things. He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the fetters that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful.” [al-Araf, The Heights 7:157]
He is the one of whom Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him) gave glad tidings. Jesus said, as His Lord states in the Quran, “O Israel, I am the Messenger of Allaah for you confirming the Torah (which came) before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad [one of the names of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him]. But when he came to them with clear proofs, they said, ‘This is clear magic.’” [as-Saff, The Rank 61:6]
When the one, Ahmad, who was promised came to them with clear signs, they said that it was nothing but magic. By this, we can refute those Christians who say that the one Jesus promised was named Ahmad and not Muhammad. We say to that that Allaah said, “When he came with clear proofs,” and none has come to you after Jesus except Muhammad (peace be upon him). Muhammad is Ahmad and Allah inspired Jesus to call Muhammad Ahmad. This is because Ahmad is a name from the root meaning, “to praise,” and the name itself means, “One who praises Allaah more than others.” Therefore, [Muhammad (peace be upon him)] is the most praiseworthy of Allaah among all peoples…
I further say: If anyone claims that there is a religion on earth other than Islam that is acceptable to Allah, then the person who made that claim is a disbeliever and there is no doubt about his disbelief. This is because Allah has said in His Book, “Whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him and in the Hereafter he will be one of the losers.” ['aali-Imraan, The Family of Imraan 3:85]. Allaah has also said, “Truly, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam” ['aali-Imraan, The Family of Imraan 3:19]. Another verse states, “This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion” [al-Ma'ida, The Table Spread with Food 5:3]
Based on that – and I repeat it for a third time – the person who made that statement [mentioned in the question] must repent to Allah, Most High. And he must also make it clear to all the people that those Jews and Christians are disbelievers. This is so because the proof has been established against them, they have received the message but they have refused to believe.
The Jews have been described as those who have earned Allah’s wrath. That is because they knew the truth and chose to go against it. The Christians have been described as those who have gone astray. This is because they sought the truth but were misled from it. Now, all of them have knowledge of the truth and recognize it. However, they go against it. Therefore, they all deserve to have the wrath of Allah upon them. I call all those Jews and Christians to believe in Allah and all of His Messengers. I call upon them to follow the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). This is what they have been ordered to do in their own books. Allah states in the Quran, “My Mercy embraces all things. That (Mercy) I shall ordain for those who are God-fearing and give zakat (charity), and those who believe in Our revelations. Those who follow the Messenger, the illiterate Prophet whom they find written about with them in the Torah and the Gospel, he commands what is right and forbids what is evil. He allows them the good things and forbids for them disdainful things. He releases them from their heavy burdens and from the fetters that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honour him, help him, and follow the light which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be successful. Say (O Muhammad): O Mankind! Verily, I am sent to all of you as the Messenger of Allah, to whom belongs the heavens and the earth. There is no true God but He. It is He who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered, who believes in Allaah and His Words. And follow him so that you may be guided.” [al-Araf, The Heights 7:156-158].
[By having such faith, those converts from Judaism and Christianity] shall receive their reward twice. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “There are three people who will receive their rewards twice: A person from the People of the Book [Jews and Christians] who believed in his prophet and believed in Muhammad…” [al-Bukhari and Muslim].
I have also found in the law book al-Iqna`, in the section on apostasy, where the author has stated, “One who does not consider as a disbeliever one who follows a religion other than Islam, such as the Christians, or who has doubt about their disbelief or who approves of their way himself is a disbeliever.” And he quotes Ibn Taymiyyah (a Scholar from the middle ages) as saying, “[The following is] a disbeliever: Whoever believes that churches are the houses of Allah in which he He is worshipped or who thinks that what the Jews and Christians do are valid acts of worship of Allah and obedience to Him and His Messenger, or loves or approves of what they do, or aids them in having such places and establishing their religion, and he does so thinking that is a way of getting closer to Allah or worshipping Allah.” He also stated, “If someone believes that visiting the Jews and the Christians in their places of worship is an act that brings him closer to Allah, then he is an apostate.”
These statements support what was stated in the text of the answer. This is a matter concerning which there is no room for doubt. And help is sought only with Allah.
This question was responded by Imaam Ibn Uthaymeen, Fataawa Islamiyyah, vol. 1, p. 87
